"A Scavenger’s Wake: A True Story of Death, Survival and Hope"

About forty million Gyps vultures—dark-winged birds that can soar without the shiver of a wing—died across South Asia at the turn of the 21st century. For a decade, no one knew why. Journalist and nonfiction writer Nikhil Eapen is working on a book about this devastating tragedy. "A Scavenger’s Wake" is the true story of the race to save South Asia’s vultures from extinction. Part whodunit, part investigative journalism, it follows a compelling cast of characters as they grapple with the mysterious deaths while racing against time to unmask the killer and prevent a bird they love from blinking out entirely. He read a chapter from his work-in-progress manuscript and discuss the vulture die-off and its consequences.
