Antonio Ungar

Antonio Ungar was born in Bogotá in 1974. In the late 1990s he spent a year in the Colombian jungle in contact with the indigenous population, then traveled abroad, living in Manchester, Mexico City, Barcelona and Jaffa, before eventually settling in Berlin. He is the author of a number of novels and collections of short stories, which have been translated into several languages. His novel Tres ataúdes blancos (Anagrama, 2010) was awarded the 2010 Herralde Prize and was shortlisted for the Rómulo Gallegos Prize. His latest novel, Eva y las fieras (Anagrama, 2021), tells the story of a Bogotá nurse and her daughter who, escaping a life of drugs and violence, leave the city to live in the Orinoco jungle, where they meet a new Colombia, one that they didn’t know existed.
