Biography
The journalist and writer Karen Cheung was born in Shenzhen and grew up in Hong Kong, where she lives and writes today. She teaches creative writing at the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is the author of The Impossible City: A Hong Kong Memoir (Random House, 2022), a fusion of reporting and autobiography, as well as a portrait of a city and an entire generation of its citizens. It was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, The Economist, and several other periodicals. Her stories and essays on music, literature and politics have appeared in a number of publications, including The New York Times, New York Magazine, Evergreen Review, and The Oxonian Review.
