Biography
The Emerita Professor in Arabic studies at Oxford University, Marilyn Booth has published books on a range of subjects in her field, from 19th-century Arab women’s writing and feminisms, to historical translation and vernacular Arabic literature. Dedicated to literary translation, she has published English versions of twenty-four Arabic novels, story collections and memoirs from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Her translation of the Omani author Jokha Alharthi’s Celestial Bodies won the 2019 Man Booker International Prize.
