Biography

The American writer Mateo Askaripour was born in 1991. His professional life at a startup when he was in his twenties provided a wealth of comic material for his first published novel, Black Buck (Mariner Books, 2021), a satire of the work culture in corporate America underscoring the systemic racism there. It was an instant success and figured on the New York Times bestseller list. He was a winner of the National Book Foundation’s “5 Under 35” Prize in 2023. His work has been translated into multiple languages, including French, Spanish, and Portuguese. This Great Hemisphere, his second novel, was published in 2024 by Dutton Publishing. His third novel, Pure Ox, is slated for publication in the fall of 2026, also by Dutton/Penguin Random House.
